The Social Flip: Top Social Media Skills for Every Day Life

The Social Flip: Top Social Media Skills for Every Day Life
By Alexis L Tai

Enter the world of 2013, the world of tomorrow. We are not quite there with the flying cars or houses that can rise above the smog as the "Jetsons" stated we will eventually. However, before we can entertain anything else, we need to learn how to survive Social Media.

Social Media has been around longer than many people care to pay attention. It only gained attention when it was re-invented. The rules swiftly changed as more people were introduced to the internet and the capabilities of what you could do with it expanded as well.

Here is a quick list of things to remember on this new (but old, just more public) frontier.

Think before you respond. By giving yourself time to think over your response - you can avoid several errors that happen, have happened, and will happen to many of us that rush through responses. You can absorb what you are responding to and make a clear, concise response.

FACT CHECK THAT FACT CHECK! Always verify your information from the source when it comes to getting anything off the internet especially social media. Many people can change the way something was written to give the appearance it came from someone else. In addition, Information also spreads very quickly on Social Media. Once it is there, it is there. You do not want to end up with egg on your face. Unless the source is the source of origin, CHECK IT AGAIN!

If you don't want to hear about it later, don't put it up now. We all love a good flirty photo, or dirty joke. It is human nature to be preoccupied in public or privately with something that is considered taboo or naughty. It is because of this it is also very easy to offend people on social media. Being that everyone's opinion varies - the idea of what is racy, trashy, raunchy, rude, provocative, disgusting, etc is different for each person. It is usually at this time where you will be attacked by opinions from every single direction. Some will be funny; some will be not so funny. Do not put yourself on the spot.

Lead a double (or triple) life.  Separate your personal life from your business life when it comes to social media. This way there are no mistakes or inappropriate moments had. This also means that if you decide to voice your opinion about something in the world of current events, it can't be used against you on a professional level. The best way to do this is to have two accounts, one for your business contacts (employer, business partners, and colleagues) and one for family. Some people sometimes go as far to getting a third strictly for their friends. If it makes things easier for you, then getting a triple life might keep you out of sticky situations.

Remember your Ideas and beliefs may not be the same as others. On social media, many blurt their beliefs out and challenge others who do not share those same beliefs. Sometimes it can be easier to just avoid the topic all together and remove yourself when it comes up No matter if it is business, family or friends. Sometimes the best answer is the one not given.

Know your audience. If you choose to have your boss, your significant other, and your pastor on your account - Make sure you know what to post that is generally acceptable versus, posting something that will start World War 3. Sometimes sending it one on one might be even funnier than trying to send it publicly. If you want to post it and you have to think about "who might see it" or "is this against the rules (if allowed to post at work)" back away. It is more than likely best shared privately around people you are sure ill appreciate it.

These tips can make your time on Social Media and the Internet a lot less confusing and confrontational time. If you have your own tips, please add them in the comments.

Do you know the rules to social media? Please share what you know! In a consistently changing terrain that is the internet, it's always good to keep up with the ever present changes.

You have probably heard about the Nokia Support Discussions forum if you are an owner of a Nokia device. You should see the site if you haven't already, because it has 20 million visitors per month and its million-plus posts cover more than 150,000 topics and are written by nearly 400,000 registered members. You are sure to find some good advice there. We were so impressed that we asked them to share it with us. We spent days perusing the forum and questioning the most in-the-know power users and compiled these important tips for everything Nokia Lumia.

If you hit the volume key while the phone is ringing, the call is silenced without being rejected.
Even if the screen is locked, pressing and holding the camera key will open the camera.
If you rotate your Nokia Lumia phone to landscape mode while using the calculator app, it will become a scientific calculator.
You can add layouts for more languages on your keyboard by going to Settings > Keyboard and selecting a language. You will see a button for language choice when you are using the keypad.
It's possible to disable auto-correction by going to Settings > Keyboard. Then click "Typing settings," then tap "Press to change" at the top of the screen. A new window opens and you can remove the check mark from "correct misspelled words."
If you want to create shopping list or to do list, there is a pre-installed Office app for these kinds of tasks on Nokia Lumia Smartphone. Open Office on your phone, go to "notes" and add a new note by pressing the + sign. Pin notes to your home screen after labeling them properly.
If there is an app for which you know a newer version is available, but the app does not yet show as an update, forcing the update is an option (if the update is available where you live). Locate the app in the marketplace, hit the "share" button and press the back key. The update button will appear.
If your battery is not lasting as long as it usually does, look into the options for "find my phone" in the settings menu. Make sure that the top option is not checked because this draws a lot of power from the battery. Don't worry, "find my phone" still works even when both boxes are unchecked.
If you have problems with internet connectivity using mobile data or issues with MMS installing and running, the network setup app from the Nokia marketplace may be your answer. It's available through the Nokia collection section.
If the battery has died and the phone won't properly restart, using a USB to connect to a PC sometimes will restart the phone faster than using a charger connected to an outlet.

Super HD Streaming And Airplay Are Now Supported By NetFlix For iOS 7

Super HD Streaming And Airplay Are Now Supported By NetFlix For iOS 7
By E. Sankar

This latest version from NetFlix includes some special features like playback and also few other stability improvements. Though this seems to be a "change of plans" on the part of NetFlix, nevertheless, it's good news for the entire Apple iOS 7 lovers out there. They can now watch all their favorite TV episodes and movies available on NetFlix in Super HD.

Earlier, in the year 2011, NetFlix officials announced that they have no plans for developing a new version that supports AirPlay. Instead, the company suggested the subscribers to use the dedicated app created for the same purpose on their Apple TV's. It now seems that they have changed their plans and incorporated "AirPlay support" in their latest version.

This new version enables iPad, iPod touch and iPhone users to stream content from NetFlix to their devices directly without having to use any application on their set-top boxes. The hurdle of navigating to the application on the set-top box to be able to watch videos is said to have been completely eradicated with the advent of AirPlay support in NetFlix 5.0

Now, with the help of AirPlay streaming tool included in the new version, videos and movies can be streamed seamlessly to your Apple TV. This does not require AirPlay mirroring anymore, so there is no need for the users to get tied up to any such applications that distracts them while watching their favorite TV episodes or a movie.

NetFlix, an "Emmy" winning online service provider, has made it possible for all of its members to have access to "Super HD" streaming last week itself. But, this new upgrade from the company has included the iOS 7 family into the group, which is great news for all the "Apple" fans.

This up gradation allows the Apple users to watch pictures in 1080p HD and the only catch here is, they should be running the new iOS 7 on their devices. The HD service also depends on the internet service provider you are subscribed to. People, who have already given the new version 5.0 a trail, claim that in order to be able to watch in Super HD, a minimum internet speed of 5mbps is required. And in order to take the full advantage of the service and obtain the best quality picture available from NetFlix, an internet speed of 7mbps is required.

NetFlix Version 5.0 is now available for download in your iOS App Store.

I have been writing on latest news regarding the iPhones for past two years. I have always found it fascinating to know about the latest news related to the Apple family. If you share similar interests, please feel free to contact me at  ernintigowrisankar@gmail.com

Monitoring Wireless Internet Activity: Important Considerations

Monitoring Wireless Internet Activity: Important Considerations
By Devid Conway

Whether you are an individual user or sharing your connection with other users, monitoring your wireless internet usage is a good way to save a lot on data charges and also to secure your system from unauthorized access. By tracking the internet activity, individual users can get a summary of their online action over a set period of time; this helps them strategies their internet usage so that they can use their time more productively.

Monitoring is specially needed in shared connections. By tracking the online activities of the shared users, you can minimize the risks of malware attack and stop the users from accessing potentially harmful websites over your connection. Unnecessary use of data resources increases the operational costs and also reduces the productivity level. At offices, the IT professionals monitor every computer in order to keep the systems secure and also to control cyber stalking.

Many people make use of a complicated security key with solid encryption to protect their wireless connection from unauthorized access and usage. With the technology advancement, the fraudsters are also getting smarter, coming up with more ways to vandalize the network connection. Thus to ensure that no one is using your connection secretly or making use of it for unethical purposes, tracking the usage detail is the best way out.

To track your usage detail, the first thing you can do is to check if the router that you are using can monitor the entire wireless network. To check this, you just type your router's domain URL into your web browser. After that, you have to login with your username and password. Though the interface and monitoring feature varies depending on the router, you may still access the section that shows the statistics of your router. The page contains a button; you just click the button to access the page where you may get a list of devices that are using your network and also can get some additional information.

While the router can give you an overview of your network, it cannot exactly show the activities of the connected computers. In such a circumstance, you can rely on programs that run in the background to monitor the wireless network activities. While the task manager can only make you see the activities of your own computer, you need to take help of other third-party tools to check the usage of other computers on your network. However, if you want to know whether any unauthorized device has accessed your network or not, you can check the virus scanner or internet security suite. In many wireless internet routers, there remains pre-installed network monitoring software; such software stops malware and viruses from spreading in the network. You can also search for such software to detect unauthorized access.

Other than these pre-installed software programs, there are many wireless internet network monitoring tools available in the market today. You can search for those tools that show you all the details about who visited what sites and for how much time. If you are choosing a paid service, use the trial version first so that you can figure out the effectiveness of the software.

GoWiMi offer Wireless internet Services for Hospitality, Travel, Corporate and Event businesses such as Hotels, Resorts, Airline, Car Rentals, Coaches, Travel Agents and Events.

Smart Strategy to Recover From SQL Database Crash

Smart Strategy to Recover From SQL Database Crash
By James Mascarenhas

Maintaining backup of mission critical data is of paramount importance for any organization which help to recover data with minimum downtime thereby avoiding any discontinuity in business activities. You need to include different backup strategies while keeping in mind the cost of its implementation, Recovery Time Objectives and Recovery Point Objectives. Consider the below mentioned measures in this regard:-

   Full Backup
   Differential Backup
   Transaction Log

Full Backup: - Full backup process creates a complete mirror image of all the data. This is the safest and universally adopted method to recoup with the disaster. The point to take care is that even though this is the safest way but it is also time-consuming. If you want to restore data in the shortest possible time and your backup file is running to the tune of multiple terabytes, then you might need to re-strategize your plan before adopting this recovery mechanism.

Differential Backup: - In this type, a backup carries the new changes that took place since the last full backup subjected to the time specified in Differential Backup. Suppose you scheduled that the system should take complete backup every midnight and Differential Backup every 8 hours and due to some reason your database gets corrupted at 9:00AM. Now to restore and return to the state which was before the corruption you need to have the full backup plus the differential Backup but you will still be short of 1 hour database. To regain that 1 hour missing files you need to add the Transaction Log backup as well.

Transaction Log Backup: - Suppose you scheduled that the Transaction log Backup must take place every 30 minutes. Now we can compensate the one hour of database that we are short of by using the Transaction Log files.

But one must understand that it is not always possible to restore 100% data. If the same scenario would have taken place at 9:05AM then the company will lose whatever data that was not stored in that 5 minute of duration. So it totally depends upon the company to what extent they are ready to go to protect and keep their data.

Now coming back to the restore capability if the company only wants the latest data and can manage without the full Backup support they can restart their work by deploying only Differential Backup+ Transaction Log Backup or only with Transaction Log files, if the company can work smoothly with it. But before jumping the gun you need to apply all the backup combination necessary to meet the desired goals.

Specialized solutions are designed and developed by the company for the effective SQL database recovery and management. SQL Recovery software is the best example for such solutions from the company that helps user in the easiest way to restore SQL backup database after corruption issues are reported.

Why You Should Buy the iPhone 5s
By Ranya Georgalas

There have already been thousands of iPhone 5s and 5c reviews published all over the Australasian, US and European markets regarding Apple's latest addition to its iPhone family.

The focus of this article is to summarise what is really better in this iPhone compared to the iPhone 5 and why you should consider the change if you are currently in two minds.

Apple has a tendency to have a major launch of its iPhone range followed by a minor launch the year after. This has certainly followed the course with the introduction of the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 and now iPhone 5s. The additional evidence here is the launch of the slightly cheaper brother in the 5c.

If you don't own an iPhone or have an iPhone 4 or earlier model, then the iPhone 5s is really the way to go.

The key improvements include:

Processor - A7 is what sits inside the Apple 5s engine room and by all accounts is a much more powerful machine than the A6 which sits within iPhone 5. Many have put it into the category of the MacBook Pro compared to the MacBook Air. The improvement processing power also has flow on effects to areas such as battery life and gaming.
Camera - Apple hasn't gone down the path of more mega-pixels means a much better camera and a much better picture. Apple's focus has been on the sensitivity of the lens and the flash. There is also much improvement in the area of video camera with 1080p video recording and stability.
Gaming - If you travel on public transport you would have thought that smartphones where only introduced so that students and adults could play games. Apple is really gunning to become the best performing phone when it comes to mobile gaming and the processor within the iPhone 5s is testament to this. Supporting these improvements are the range of games that you can access through iTunes.
Transactions - Touch ID is not only an easier way to unlock your phone but it is also the foundations for greater security and ability to transact using your mobile phone. Apple know this and over the coming year, we are likely to see more from Apple giving this feature greater applicability within the Apple universe.
iOS7 - comes pre-installed on the iPhone 5s saving you the hassle of the upgrade if you are on an earlier iPhone. The upgrade so far seems to be more about aesthetics than anything else.

If I had an iPhone 5, I would stick with it unless your phone is suffering physically. Better to wait will the next round of changes ie iPhone 6 for a much bigger bang from Apple.

Windows 8 Features - Consumer Preview

Windows 8 Features - Consumer Preview
If you aren't too excited about the new Windows 8 features, then you should be, because from the older operating systems, Windows 8 will be one of the biggest upgrades by Microsoft as far as its operating systems are concerned...

Microsoft released a consumer preview for Windows 8, which allows users to download the operating system online and use it to give important feedback. Most people will think, well here is another version of Microsoft's Windows operating system, which will have just a few tweaks here and there, but nothing more. Well, not this time. The Windows 8 features are quite amazing, and it can easily be said that this operating system is one of their biggest upgrades from previous versions.

So what's so special about Windows 8? Quite a lot...
For starters, even the chips in tablets and phones will support Windows 8 along with PCs and laptops. Which means that, the same version of the operating system will be available across all devices.
Windows 8 is a revolution as far as passwords are concerned. The new feature is vital especially to tablets and touchscreens, where entering long and complex passwords is a task. Windows 8 allows pictures and gestures for user authentication. Meaning, you can choose an image and a gesture on that image like circling an object, or tapping an area, or drawing a line between two points, as your password.
Now you can take your Windows 8 around with you even on a pen drive. The enterprise version will allow you to take your whole operating system out with you on a flash drive or any portable device, which is like taking your whole computer out along with you, without actually doing it physically.
With Windows XP and Windows Vista, or any previous versions, one thing that was inevitable was the speed of the operating system slowing down with the passage of time and usage. Windows 8 has a solution, or in fact two, 'refresh' and 'reset'. A 'refresh' allows you to reinstall Windows, retaining all your personal data and settings. A 'reset' deletes all your data and settings, resets your OS to the absolute initial stage, making it as good as new.
We all get bugged by those frequent warnings about updates and the computer needing to restart. Well none of that now with Windows 8. Now all updates will be consolidated to one single date. Meaning, all updates and restarts will wait till the month's security release, giving you just one restart for the month.
All of us copy files from one drive to another, or from one device to another, and we all know how inaccurate the estimates that are displayed are. With this OS, firstly if you have multiple file transfers going on, it consolidates all of them into one display pop-up, but with a detailed view available. Also, individual transfers can be paused or canceled.
Last but not the least, Windows 8 has a new boot process called 'Secure Boot'. This will ensure that the operating system has not been affected by any sort of malware.
You can be sure that there will be some more goodies available besides these features when the final version is out for everyone to use. As time goes by, these Windows 8 features will only excite more and more people, till the final OS is available for general use.

Why You Should Buy the iPhone 5s

Camera or Smartphone? - Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom

Camera or Smartphone? - Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom
By Michael MB Brown

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is a direct spin-off of the original Samsung Galaxy S4 but there are major changes in the design to ensure the ultimate compact camera experience. The touchscreen display has been shrunk from 5-inches to 4.3-inches to ensure its ergonomic shape sits naturally in the hand, as a stand-alone compact camera would.

The chrome zoom lens protrudes slightly from the back of the phone and adds a little weight to the product at 208 grams. From the front it is impossible to distinguish the true nature of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, which looks like any other smartphone.

Camera

A hands-on experience with this device will soon have users forgetting that it is in fact a smartphone. The camera side of this hybrid device is pretty impressive with a 16 megapixel lens and more importantly there is a 10x optical zoom. I mention this as most camera phones have a digital zoom which leaves them lacking when compared to a stand-alone compact camera.

The zoom is operated by twisting the lens that protrudes from the back of the device and this is a much more natural experience when compared to camera phones that operate via pinch-and-zoom on a touchscreen display.

During my time spent creating a review of the    Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom I was truly amazed at the quality of the images and these were in a league of their own when compared to results from other camera phones.

Just like a compact camera there are many modes to choose from to ensure the best image is captured. The auto mode will suit most circumstances but the night mode is well worth activating in the evenings as the results far exceed those taken in auto mode. There is also an expert mode for those who want a little more control and from here I could adjust the shutter speed, ISO, aperture and brightness.

Smartphone

This smartphone performs extremely well and incorporates many of the features enjoyed on the original Samsung Galaxy S4. These include Samsung apps such as S Translate, S Travel, S Voice and Story Album.

There is a dual core 1.5GHz processor to handle complex tasks and the same Android v4.2 operating system is included and this gives access to Google Play for new app downloads.

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is advanced as a compact camera and performs well as a smartphone, although the original exceeds it when the phone specifications are viewed side-by-side.

This is probably the first camera smartphone that I have seen where I would suggest, hand-on-heart, leaving your compact camera at home as this phone/camera combo is up to the task.

Sony Xperia Z Smartphone - Design Review

Sony Xperia Z Smartphone - Design Review
By Mac Jones

The Xperia Z represents the first steps in Sony's plan to focus on mobile, gaming and imaging devices. Whilst it addresses all of those areas, it also marks a new direction in Sony smartphones by introducing a new design language that uses sharp angles, glossy surfaces and premium materials.

It is also the company's first 1080p resolution smartphone and the first boasting a five inch screen. New technological advances also include the company's new Bravia Mobile Engine 2, a 13-megapixel camera (featuring the HDR video capable Exmor RS sensor) and a Snapdragon 1.5GHz quad-core S4 Pro processor.

On top of this, the handset has a water and dust resistant casing to protect all of those high end electronics.

Over a series of three articles, we take a detailed look at this important new smartphone.

Design

The Xperia Z feels solid with very few plastic parts and those which are present are of high quality. It is certainly a good looking phone, easily Sony's best-looking smartphone ever, although compromises have been made to get these slender good looks. The lack of a removable battery panel limits the ability to carry a spare battery and makes it harder to replace failing batteries, but is does allow the components to be squeezed together in order to achieve the impressively thin 7.9mm (0.31 inch) thick chassis which weighs just 145g (or 5.16 ounces).

The glass-coated rear casing brings the Sony up to the quality levels achieved by the new HTC One and Apple iPhone 5, although to give the handset a unique element Sony has extended these glass panels around the sides. The back panel and front screen are made of shatter-resistant glass (although not Corning Gorilla Glass), while a glass-fibre polyamide chassis with slightly rounded corners connects the glass panels together.

Overall the Sony comes across as a high end smartphone, only bettered in terms of quality and feel by the fabulous HTC One. In our opinion the Xperia is a nicer device than the iPhone 5 and a great deal better than Samsung's top smartphone, the Galaxy S4 which just has too much average feeling plastic to appeal to those looking for a quality feel to their new phone.

Although it's a good looking device, the lager casing dictated by that huge 5-inch screen and associated bezel mean that it isn't very comfortable to hold unless you happen to have gigantic hands and reaching the phone's top edge is a bit of a stretch during one-handed use. The sharp 90-degree corners also hinder usability a little.

It is worth noting that Sony plan to introduce a slightly smaller version, dubbed the Xperia ZR, for those who feel the full sized Z is a little too large.

Other design features worth mentioning are the (unfortunately) tiny speaker which doesn't really offer anything other than acceptable sound quality, with the HTC One and its front facing stereo speakers still well ahead of the smartphone pack when it comes to sonic performance.

The rear mounted 13MP camera lens is slightly recessed, which it a nice touch that will help to prevent it from getting scratched whilst the front-facing 2MP camera is situated just above the screen. Apart from the microphone there is nothing below the screen as the Xperia Z employs on-screen buttons rather than any physical keys.

The handset will be available in black or white, with a purple edition soon to join the line up.

5-inch 1080p HD screen

While several manufactures have announced handsets with 5-inch, 1080p screens, the Xperia Z is one of the first to be made available. Thanks to the upgrade to a 1080p resolution screen, the Xperia Z offers a higher screen density than its predecessor the Xperia T (at 443 pixels per inch). This is despite the increase in screen size from 4.6 to 5-inches. The screen really is impressive, and almost rivals anything we've seen to date in terms of sharpness and richness.

We say almost rivals, because the HTC One's Super LCD 3 smartphone screen offers better viewing angles and outdoor performance whilst being a little sharper thanks to its slightly smaller 4.7-inch display. Sony claims that the new OptiContrast display should reduce reflection and make it better to read in bright sunlight. Despite this certain lighting conditions made it difficult to read the screen at times when other smartphones would have probably fared a great deal better.

Contrast also seemed to be a little inferior to rivals smartphones such as the Galaxy S4, with blacks becoming slightly grey when using higher brightness settings which are sometimes necessary due to the above issues.

Sony Xperia Z summary

The Sony research and development team have obviously been working hard on this new model. The technical specification represents a huge improvement on earlier models and brings it on a level equal to its three smartphone rivals - the iPhone 5S, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. The high quality materials used in its construction also allows it to match the first two of its rivals and easily beat the Galaxy S4. Look out for our other reviews on the Xperia Z.

Quad-core processing power, exclusive materials and the unique feature of water resistance mark out the Sony Xperia Z on 3 as one of the leading handsets on the mobile phone market today. You also get a massive 5-inch HD screen and impressive memory expansion options which put the device squarely up against the iPhone 5S and HTC One. Whether you are looking for a new contract deal or to purchase a handset outright, we hope that our review of the Xperia Z will help you make an informed decision. Thank you for reading.

iPad Mini - Mini Device, Massive Experience

iPad Mini - Mini Device, Massive Experience

Steve said they will never do it. Regardless, post-Steve Apple went ahead and brought us a smaller, lighter iPad. Was it worth the risk?

For many the first reaction was, "But Why?", "It is not a phone but also not quite an iPad".

Why on earth would you want this?

Well...

It was promised to be as thin as a pencil and that was no lie! The depth of the iPad Mini is only 0.28 inches. The weight of the iPad Mini can hardly be compared to its older siblings. It weighs a mere 308g, thus 294.84g lighter than an iPad 3. At a height of 200mm (7.87"), it fits in rather nicely among the 7-inch tablet range. Something about this little device simply screams "hold me"!

We know this device is pretty to look at, extremely easy to hold and the name Apple is enough to guarantee great quality and a great experience. This would however not be a real review if we leave out the technical repartee.

Let's break it open and try to make sense of it all.

The 7.9-inch screen uses the same LED backlight technology as the bigger iPads. Compared to other devices in the 7-inch range it seems like the extra 0.9-inch does make a welcomed difference. The only slight disappointment is that the iPad Mini does not have Retina display like the 4th Generation iPad.

The performance of the iPad Mini is driven by its powerful dual-core, 1GHz A5 chip. (To bring you up to speed, all cellphones contains a CPU chip. In the case of the iPad Mini it is an Apple A5 chip. The CPU chip or processor is the circuit that performs computer programmes. In layman terms: when you tell your Smartphone to do something, this chip will determine how fast your cellphone will do it. Dual-core means you have 2 CPU circuits on one chip, thus you can ask your cellphone to do more than one thing at the same time.) The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 also has a 1GHz dual core processor while Google's Nexus 7 is bragging with a 1.2GHz Quad Core processor.

Something else we came to value in our tablet companions is their ability to capture our memorable life moments. The Mini has not one but two built in cameras. You have one FaceTime HD camera on the front. This camera can be used when taking self-portraits or making video calls. On the back you have a 5MP iSight camera. The Google Nexus 7 only has a front facing camera while Samsung's 7" tablets only have 3MP cameras.

Connecting your device is an important factor for many, especially since we are so dependent on our data. The iPad Mini will be LTE compatible for some South Africans. Whether or not you are in the LTE range should not get you too stressed out. In general the Wireless connection on the iPad Mini is rather fast and smooth. Download speeds can reach up to 150 Mbps. (This of course depends on a number of factors, including the signal strength in the area you are in.)

Just like Mr Jobs, we too where rather sceptic. Sure, the market for smaller 7-something -inch tablets is booming and people like holding the tablet experience in one hand. None the less, an Apple device somewhere between an iPad an iPhone had us holding our breath

I think it is safe to say that we can let out a sigh of relieve and admit that Apple has done it again. They took something, not completely unfamiliar, added some Apple charisma to it and sent it out into the world with one very clear message: I might be a Mini device but I ensure a massive Apple experience.

My First 10 Minutes With IOS 7

My First 10 Minutes With IOS 7
By Bob Duker

OK, first impressions...

When the first image the iOS7 shows me after the initial load is "hello "in every language except English until the very last; My first thought is "Wow! Putting America last?  What kind of statement is that supposed to make?"  But then I turn it off and I realize that it Started with the English Hello, I just missed that half second window.  Now I feel sufficiently rebuked...

Then I see the prompt to swipe to complete the setup.  Setup? Ah crap!  I have to input all my stuff again!  And true enough you go through all the settings...  Looks like all my music and stuff is toast.

Spotlight has moved, it tells me.  Yeah-yeah, so swiping down instead of left is not exactly earth shattering.  Right away I notice everything is a mix of sickly pastels and bright colors now too, just like the latest remake of Microsoft's...  well, everything.  The message, phone and Facetime icons are now day-glow green; I suppose somehow those had to be highlighted because someone would miss them?

OK,  bluetooth is off by default, so if you had that on you need to enable it again.  Interesting, my Bluetooth device is still connected...  maybe everything is not wiped out like last time...

Passbook has been turned on,  I don't like that so I turned that off again as before.  It looks like various things, but not everything have had their defaults reset, so it's probably a good idea to go over all of your settings again and make sure they match what you expect them to be.

My wifi settings and logins are also intact!  So I'm heading over to music to await the good news...  YES! Nothing erased!  OK, now I'm intrigued; last major update everything got tossed out, but this time, it looks like most of my personal stuff was left intact, including my recent notes on the measurements I took last week for an upcoming project which I had forgotten to save before the update.  A most happy circumstance for me.

I don't know that I like the new mango-on-white theme here in some of the menus, but I suppose I don't have a choice *sigh.*

A Lot of the icons have lost their former color in favor a black & white theme; ah well, again not something I enjoy personally, but I suppose it's yet another change I have no control over.  At least it's on their own icons that got the funky makeover, so everything else looks the same.  I'll definitely have to change the background though, because the grey-on-grey icons/background thing is giving me a headache.

A call came in, interrupting my tour, but that gave me a chance to look at the new call interface screens,  same general theme, a little more pastel than before, but the buttons are bigger, so I'm sure some folks will appreciate that those are easier to see.

Overall I'm noticing that a lot of the contrast, which used to help things stand out is now gone in favor of the whole web-ishness of the whites and faded greys, but this is making it harder to identify things such as the bar down at the bottom of the phone menu, which used to stand out and now melds into the background with only a feint shade of off-white differentiating it from the main call-list screen I'm currently viewing.  I'm really going to have to get used to this, all these whites with off-whites and greys against faded greys are more than a bit annoying.

No more bars!  Now you have dots! (filled or not filled)

Other than the new cartoony/faded website look, I'm not seeing anything huge here.  I suppose I'll Have to keep on using it in order to find out if the reported fixes to Siri.  So far though, it has turned "We'll see how it goes" was turned into "Holatee Health Services."  Maybe I was talking too fast?  Next try:  "So I suppose we'll have to see how it goes"  turned into "I suppose Roxio toast."  Apparently this still needs work...

Texts are definitely easier to read, so I can see some benefit to the new color scheme in some places, but in others it's just plain annoying.  Themes anyone?

Alright, so that's my impression from my first ten minutes with the new iOS 7 which just hit today.

Just my view from the cheap seats...

A Review of Nokia Lumia 920

A Review of Nokia Lumia 920

By Joseph Chinalu Osagu

NOKIA'S FLAGSHIP

The Finnish company announced their first Windows Phone 8 flagship model the Nokia Lumia 920. The company claimed it to be the most innovative smartphone. Proving the clam it includes a handful of innovations. After the "Not so much hailed" Windows Phone 7 series, Nokia came up with this legendary Windows Phone to overcome the flaws and disadvantages of predecessor. With this model Nokia once again achieved a milestone in the world of smartphone against its competitors.

HARWARE, BUILD & DESIGN

The Unibody Lumia 920 comes loaded with a 1.5 Dual-Core Snapdragon Krait processor with a 1 GB RAM and with Adreno 225 GPU. It comes preloaded with a mammoth 32GB storage which cannot be expanded. Weighing 185 grams with a thickness of 10.7mm, 920 feels slightly bulky in the hand of an average palm. The reason being it contains lot of features packed with it along with a small negativity-the size factor. Coming to the build of the phone it looks much similar to the Nokia's previous generation device Lumia 900. The mobile body is made with Nokia's Unique Polycarbonate shell. Various color shells are available where the Black and Cyan has matte finish while others have glossy finish. It has a curves surface at the back packed with a whooping 2000mAh battery that can with stand the phone 4G LTE connection. The device has wireless charging capabilities with the help of Qi wireless charging technology. It has Power Button, Camera, Volume keys to its right side of the Body and SIM slot and 3.5mm jack to the top. Lumia 920 has NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB 2.0 for connectivity.

DISPLAY

Unlike most of the other high-end smartphones, Lumia 920 comes with a massive 4.5inch IPS-LCD display instead of the AMOLED and has a resolution of 1280 x 768 (720p) with 332ppi. As one of the invention Nokia it has the 'Pure Motion HD+' display in this which offers much more clarity and sharper display than any other smartphone. It has a 60 fps screen that gives the guarantee of less blur. It also features a Super-Sensitive touch which allows the users to use the touch even wearing a gloves. Lumia 920 display also contains Nokia's proprietary ClearBack Display which improves the colour contrast and reduces the reflection of the screen thus enabling the user to use even in bright sunlight. The display is protected by the Corning Gorilla glass 2 that is known for its durability.

CAMERA

The Finnish company is an expert in Camera performance which they proved to the world with the Nokia 808 Symbian phone. Now, they have brought the very same performance to the Windows Phone platform with Nokia Lumia 920. The Nokia Lumia 920 features an 8.7 Megapixel Camera along with Carl Zeiss optics that can take stunning images. It also has an 1.3 Megapixel wide angle front camera for video calls. Nokia included the PureView technology that was implemented in the 808 resulting in an amazing and jaw dropping camera results especially in low-light. Nokia claims it has the best low light performance than any other smartphone camera in the market. As an addition to this it comes with OIS i.e. Optical Image Stabilization which enhances the image by avoiding the shake and vibration caused while shooting photos. It produces distinctive results even while recording videos by suppressing the shakes and vibration. Nokia is now ahead in the smartphone camera race with its extra ordinary PureView Technology.

PERFORMANCE

Nokia Lumia 920's performance has been much improved than the predecessor devices running the 7.8 version of OS. The enhanced capabilities of the Windows Phone 8 OS along with Nokia's hardware deliver a classy performance. The dual core processor and 1GB RAM provides a smoother transitions. The processing speed of Lumia 920 is better than the previous generation devices. The 2000mAh gives a solid 3G talk time of 10hours.

VERDICT

If you are looking for professional phone that does not lag or hang and want a smooth and flawless performance along with a pretty good camera; if you do not want to be concerned about the size, then this is the mobile that you have been looking for.
